Moodbidri, Sep 8: Parents of a student who died recently have filed a complaint in the police station, blaming doctors for their son's demise.
Sudheesh (17), son of Suresh and Sharada couple from Kallamundkoor Urlottu, was a student of the PU college at Mundkoor. When playing Kabaddi in his college on August 22, Sudheesh complained of internal pain on the back of his knee joint. On August 26, an x-ray of the area was taken at the government hospital, Moodbidri and they were informed that there was no damage to the bones.
However, later, Dr Guruprasad, orthopedic surgeon in a private hospital here, reportedly opined that the bone had been damaged. He also did plaster of paris plastering. However, after this procedure, Sudheesh went through excruciaing pain. Thereafter, he was taken to a hospital in Suratkal and treated. As there was no relief, the boy was admitted into a private hospital at Mangaluru.
During the tests at this hospital, the doctors realized that there was immediate danger to the life of Sudheesh. After obtaining the consent of the parents, the left legof the boy was amputated on August 30. But Sudheesh did not recover in spite of treatment, and breathed his last.
Uncle of Sudheesh, Karunakar, has filed complaint in the police station here, alleging that negligence on the part of the doctors from the town in treating his nephew had resulted in his death.
