It is said, Suresh had sold some goods to a customer. After the customer failed to pay for the goods bought even after considerable time and frequent reminders, Suresh had told the customer that he would not accept money from him thereafter. He instead, asked the customer to remit seven times the money so due, to Kanathur Daivasthana, a revered religious place, the presiding deity of which is believed to be having the powers to decide disputes and penalize offenders, as penalty. The customer, worried over the ill-effects of incurring the wrath of the said Daiva, pleaded with the SI to instruct the shopkeeper to accept the cost of the goods bought by him.

The shopkeeper accused the sub-inspector of asking him to come to the police station and then abusing and insulting him there.
