Bangalore: Abundant Rains: Load Shedding goes

Bangalore, Jul 8: As the catchment areas of Linganamakki reservoir in Shimoga district have been receiving good rainfall since the last several days, the government has decided not to enforce the load shedding officially. While the load shedding used to be unscheduled and erratic in the past, the government had planned to announce the hours of load shedding officially to end the suspense on the power cuts. This decision has been put on hold for the present.

During the last week, the above reservoir received 30,000 cusecs of water. On Monday, the inflow registered was 58,000 cusecs. The water level of the reservoir stands at 1,760 ft as against the maximum level of 1,819 ft. As such, the apprehension about having to minimize the power production has been temporarily warded off and the state has escaped from rigid power cuts, energy minister Eshwara said. The power supply however, continues to be mainly dependent on the thermal power plant in Raichur, he explained.

The Udupi Thermal Power Plant (erstwhile Nagarjuna) is expected to start generating 600 mega watts of power by February, 2010, he added after a progress review of the project was undertaken at a meeting here.

With this, the people are a lot relieved, without minding much about the credits being claimed for the increase in rainfall by the temple visits by Yeddyurappa, oblation organized by Eshwarppa and the ‘Seemanta’ of frogs held by Nityanand Olakadu in Udupi on Saturday last.
