Puttur, Jul 8: Relating to a case in which a man named Sadanand Naik, a resident of Narimogaru village in the taluk, was evicted forcibly from his house, a case has been registered in the local police station against six forest department officials including the range forest officer Sundar Shetty. Naik's house got vacated and then demolished, on the plea that it stood on the land owned by the forest department.

On January 17, 2008, the house owned by Naik was vacated. Sadanand Naik in his complaint has said that his house did not stand on the encroached site of the forest department. He also has argued that by their act of forcibly demolishing his house, the officials are liable for penal action under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

This issue had cropped at the mass contact programme organized by the police department for the people belonging to scheduled castes and tribes recently. Under the directions of senior police officials, this case now stands registered.
