Bangalore: KSRTC Hikes Bus Fare by about Four Percent

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Jul 8: Within a period of six months, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has resorted to hike the bus fare. In tune with the risen petroleum prices, it has announced that the bus fares of its express and luxury buses would be hiked by 3.56% across the board, with effect from July 7 midnight.

KSRTC has clarified that the fares for its ordinary buses will remain untouched. The hike is applicable even for the buses run by North West KSRTC. Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses will charge between one and two rupees extra for the commuters.  While bus passes of KSRTC will remain the same, the BMTC passes will prove a little costlier.

The Corporation said that it has been faced with the necessity of offsetting the increased cost of about Rs 40 crore it will have to foot, because of the hike in diesel price by about Rs 2.20 per litre.  It clarified that it has hiked the fares only to the extent necessary to meet the increased fuel cost.
