Mangalore, Jul 10: Excise enforcement and lottery prohibition department, western range deputy superintendent J Papaiah and police inspector C E Timmaiah along personnel Jayaram, Narayan, M D Shariff, Nagaraj, Deepak, Umesh, Suchin, Dinesh Kumar, Lokanath, Depak, Gururaj, Ajit Bangera, Kushalakshi, Ramyashree and driver Urban Pinto, raided a unit engaged in the manufacture of spurious liquor at a spot inside the forest at Arkana near Konaje, a little distance away from the city, on the morning of Friday July 10.

The team arrested Nagaraj (37) from Hunsur and Yogish (27) from Kujathur, who were found to be engaged in preparing the concoction of spurious liquor in a temporary shed there. The riding party also confiscated 30 cans of spirit of 35 litres each, 7,500 sachets of spurious liquor, machine used to make the liquor sachets, lables and other paraphernalia, totally valued at about Rs 3,70,000.

A case has been registered with the excise enforcement and lottery prohibition squad's special police station in the city. Further investigation is being carried out, the department informed.
