Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SB)

Bangalore, Jul 12: Medical Council of India (MCI) has proposed to conduct a single entrance test for first year MBBS admissions in both government and private colleges in a bid to streamline the admissions. If the proposal is accepted more than 290 medical colleges both government and private will have to abide by the rules and regulations.

MCI has submitted the proposal to the health ministry asking for duly conduct of the single entrance test by an independent national regulatory authority based on Supreme Court rulings. On acceptance of the proposal, MCI contends that selection process will be transparent with multiple entrance tests being abolished.

With mushrooming of deemed universities, several medical colleges have begun conducting individual entrance tests, which has proved to be burdensome to students. Moreover, the Council’s proposal will benefit MBBS aspirants for meritorious students will be adjudged based on a common entrance test and will get a fair opportunity to get into good medical institutions.
