Kundapur: Friends die after Fatal Fall into Stone Quarry Pit

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Jul 13: Krishna Devadiga (15), son of Parvati Devadiga and Lakshman Kulal (15), son of Somu Kulal, met watery grave on Sunday July 12 evening, after drowning in the water standing in the pit of a stone quarry in Ultoor village near Tekkatte in the taluk. They were friends, and the ninth standard students of Tekkatte and Kedoor high school respectively.

The ill-fated boys were neighbourers. They started together from their houses at about 4.30 pm. As they did not come back, the families started looking for them and found their bodies in the quarry at about 7.30 pm. It is said, they could not identify the quarry, which is located by the side of the fields. As the fields too were inundated it is thought that they could not figure out the difference between the fields and the quarry. Both of them hail from very poor families and their parents were pinning high hopes on these boys.

Kota police inspected the spot of death and registered a case.

Very unfortunate and tragic incident. The quarry owners must be accounted for and good compensation is sought for the victims family. The state government should come forward to help these ill fated families.
