Beltangady: Tossed into Pit by Speeding Car, Man Dies on Spot

Beltangady, Jul 14: A man lost his life after he was tossed into a 15-feet-deep pit by a Maruti Omni vehicle near Kanyadi on Monday, July 13.

The accident occurred at a road curve in Kanyadi of Dharmasthala village. Sundar (30), son of Guruva from Nanildaguri Macchila House of Dharmasthala, was killed in the accident.

The Maruti Omni vehicle from Murdeshwar was on its way back after visiting Dharmasthala when the accident occurred. Kariya Mogera, who was accompanying Sundar at the time, escaped with minor injuries. He is being treated in Beltangady government hospital as in-patient. Both of them were returning to their work after having lunch at their homes, as they worked as daily wagers for Uleppady Kalluraya.

The vehicle, after hitting the pedestrians, proceeded and hit an electric pole before coming to a halt. Beltangady police have registered a case against the driver of the Omni for negligent driving. They have confiscated the car. Investigation is on.
