Mangaluru, Sep 24: The meteorological department has predicted good rainfall for the next three days in south interior and north interior Karnataka. It said that Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts apart from most parts of Uttara Kannada district might get heavy rainfall on September 25 and 26 because of low pressure areas that have formed over southern Andhra Pradesh and coastal Tamil Nadu.

During the 24-hour period ended 8.30 am on Monday, Shravanabelagola received nine cm rainfall, which was the highest in the state. During this period, Subrahmanya, Gubbi and Chamarajanagar recorded two cm of rain while Chikkamagaluru and Bengaluru got one cm rain.

As heavy rain lashed Subrahmanya and surrounding areas, Darpana Theertha rivulet was suddenly in spate on Monday evening. The rainfall continued in the foot of Kumara Parvatha hill and nearby areas for four hours. Because of the swelling rivulet, water also entered the temple compound. Several areas including some bridges went underwater. Water also entered some lodges and residences. The locals were taken by surprise about the fact that Darpana Theertha rivulet got so much inflow of water. Kumaradhara river however, did not witness this phenomenon. The flood however relented within half an hour after the rain stopped.

A release from the temple said that the devotees need not get panicky about this phenomenon, duly noting that overflowing rivulet did not create problems for anyone. The locals said that muddy water of such large quantity in the rivulet was never witnessed in the past, particularly so as River Kumaradhara in the region did not experience any major changes.

As per the prediction valid till Wednesday morning, most parts of the coast will get rainfall.
