Mangaluru: Free evaluation for Dementia organised by KMC Hospital Attavar from Sep 23 to 28

Mangaluru, Sep 24: The department of Psychiatry, KMC Hospital, Attavar is observing World Alzheimer’s Week. On behalf of this, there will be free evaluation for Dementia at Psychiatry OPD from 10 am to 3 pm from September 23 to 28.

The signs/symptoms of Dementia include memory loss, misplacing belongings, confusion of time and place, difficulties completing familiar tasks, struggling to communicate, changes in mood, social withdrawal and poor judgment.

Also, as part of this week, a commemoration event will be held on September 27 followed by a guest lecture by Dr Anil Kakunje, HOD, dept of Psychiatry, Yenepoya Medical College, Mangaluru.

Dr John Ramapuram, medical superintendent, KMC Hospital, Attavar has urged the public to make the best use of this camp and guest lecture, as Dementia is a rapidly growing disease among senior citizens but the symptoms can be identified and treated in the early stages.

The department of Psychiatry has been at the forefront of raising awareness and conducting programmes for the public on topics related to mental health.
