Bengaluru, Sep 26: The state high court (HC), on Wednesday September 25, issued interim stay against the operation of the single judge order of the HC that had annulled the appointment of Bangalore University vice chancellor, Prof K R Venugopal.

The division bench of the HC presided over by Chief Justice, A S Oka, which took up the appeals filed separately by Bangalore University and Venugopal on Wednesday, heard the arguments.
The interim stay will be operational till October 18. The bench noted that Venucopal has been serving as VC of Bangalore University since June 12, 2018, and that it would not be right to leave this post vacant at this stage. It posted the matter to October 16 for hearing.

The bench also served notice to petitioner, Sangamesh A Patil, who had questioned Venugopal's appointment, asking him to file objections. Before that, advocate for Sangameshs Patil, D R Ravishankar, argued that Bangalore University was not right in filing an appeal against the single judge bench order.

Earlier, a single judge bench of the HC presided by Justice Alok Aradhe had upheld a petition filed by Sangamesh A Patil against the order of Vengopal's appointment by the governor on June 12, 2018 as Bangalore University's VC and cancelled the appointment.
