Udupi: State level interaction programme by credit cooperative unions held

Udupi, Sep 29: "First, we have to safeguard our existence. Today's government is promoting businessmen, industries and these sectors are reached greater high. The cooperative banks are running profitably through having lots of regulations and obstacles," said Dr M N Rajendra Kumar, president, SCDCC at State level Interaction programme, was organized by Karnataka State Cooperative maha mandali and Udupi district Cooperative Union.

He was speaking after the inauguration of the programme held at Smt Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Auditorium, on Saturday, September 28.

"Earlier the cooperative administrative board had the power to recruit staffs, but today there are lots of restrictions imposed by the government in recruiting even an attendee. It seems to be a small problem, but the impact is huge," Kumar added.



"The cooperative board has given Rs 1.30 lac to the government. When we met the chief minister, we made an attempt to draw the CM's attention towards this issue and urged him to take some action," he alleged.

"In the past, the election for the cooperative board was conducted by its officials once in five years. Today, the election commission is formed for that. If the government adopted the previous pattern, the election expenditure, unnecessary burden, influence will reduce," he said.

"The Union government is implementing new rules. The government deposits crores of money in commercial banks' in current account, who are now facing bad debts. Contrastingly, the government is helping people through cooperatives. We have done a lot of things for development, but the government does not have faith in cooperatives to deposit money," Kumar claimed.

He alleged, "Today RBI is supporting public sector banks and today it is weighing both PSB and cooperative banks in the same weighing scale.
Most of the cooperative banks of undivided Dakshina Kannada are running profitably, though there are a lot of restrictions by the government. People must be an optimistic and there is question araised about survival of their life to cooperative employees. We should be united to fight against any issue. Only then we will be able to survive in this competitive era."

Kumar affirmed that, "He will always support cooperative bank employees in solving problems."

President of the cooperative union, Udupi, Praveen B Nayak spoke on the occasion.

B Jayakar Shetty Indrali, president district credit cooperative union and general manager of Badagubettu Credit Cooperative society put forward demands and problems while delivering his keynote address.

Resource persons for the day, Praveen B Nayak, deputy manager cooperation union, CA Prasanna Shenoy, CA Sujay D Alva shared information on income tax, GST, and 80p taxation act.

Purushottam compered the programme.

Belapu Deviprasad Shetty, director cooperative banks, Raviraj Hegde, president, Dakshina Kannada Milk Producers' Okkoota, Bellipady Prasad Kaushal Shetty, president, District Cooperative Union, Madhusudan Nayak, general secretary, Sahakara Bharathi, Raju Poojary Byndoor, directors of cooperative union namely Prakash Chandra, Mahesh Hegde, Rajesh Pangala, Krishnaraja Saralaya, Ashok Harish Kini, Gangadhar and others were present.
