Mangaluru: Milagres College inaugurates nine-day ‘Book Quest’ exhibition

Mangaluru, Aug 23: A nine-day massive book exhibition and sale was inaugurated on Saturday, August 22, at the auditorium of Milagres College, Hampankatta. The event is jointly organised by the Library Association and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), in association with Used Book R.

Fr Ivan Michael Rodrigues, correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions, presided over the programme. Addressing the gathering, he emphasised the significant role of books in the academic and personal development of students. He encouraged students to cultivate the habit of reading and make effective use of the library and its resources. He appreciated the efforts of the Library Association and the organisers in making a wide variety of books easily accessible to students and readers.

The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest, Fr Rupesh Ashok Mardtha, public relations officer of the diocese of Mangaluru and manager and editor of Raknno Weekly. Speaking on the occasion, he observed that despite the growing influence of digital media, books continue to remain an important source of knowledge and wisdom. He advised students to read books on diverse subjects beyond their textbooks, broaden their perspectives, and develop reading as a lifelong habit.

Dr Alwin Serrao, principal of Milagres College, extended his best wishes for the programme.

The book exhibition and sale will be held from August 22 to 30, from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm every day at the Milagres College Library. It is open to students, staff, and the general public.

Alwyn Rosario, member of the governing council; Pramila D’Souza, librarian; Denzil D’Costa, lecturer; and Spoorthi, student secretary of the library association, were present on the occasion.

Glencia Fernandes, vice-principal, welcomed the gathering. Student Nikhil compered the programme, while Dr Asha Jyothi proposed the vote of thanks.
