Udupi: Government orders ban on harmful types of fishing

Udupi, Oct 10: The government of Karnataka has taken out an order in which it has banned the following types of fishing.

*Bull Trawling and light fishing is completely banned
*Catching of Kappe Bandas in non-traditional style using Chawri, broken nets, rotten goods and other water pollutants is prohibited
*For mechanized boats permission is given to install a maximum of 350 HP engines
*All fishing boats should be coloured with only one specified colour
*All Purse-seine and fishing boats with outboard engines should not use nets below 20 MM size holes
*Removal of Pachhile (Green Mussels) in the coastal beach area is completely prohibited
*The fishing of 19 types of fishes of lawful size is ordered by the government

All the above rules needs to be strictly followed. Stringent action as per law will be taken against the violators as per the publication given by the Deputy Director of Fisheries.
