Mangaluru: 19th book of Dr Padmaja Udaykumar released at Father Muller Medical College

Mangaluru, Oct 11: The Exam Preparatory Manual for undergraduates in the medical subject of Pharmacology, revised as per the new Medical Council of India curriculum was released on October 11 at the Father Muller Medical College. The book released by the director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, Fr Richard A Coelho, brings in an innovative approach to learning of medicines/drugs for students of medical discipline in a concise yet in-depth approach.

The textbook brings in new additions such as simple language and presentation for students being exam-oriented with simple figures and self-explanatory flowcharts. The book encompasses the new MCI syllabus with mnemonics for better retention. The textbook breathes fresh air for those preparing for their exams being easily revisable and exam-oriented.



In his presidential address, the director, appreciated the efforts of Dr Padmaja in bringing out a textbook with the latest curriculum and a student-friendly literary, which not only is an arduous task at helm, but now inadvertently a benefit to the medical fraternity itself. He placed on record the dedication and service of Dr Padmaja to the Father Muller Charitable Institutions as a vice-dean of FMMC and the in-charge of the Allied Health Science Courses. Even though a request for the book release to be held at the director's office was sought, he felt the release needed a formal function to honour the knowledge that will be gained by many and the hard work put in.

Dr Padmaja Udaykumar introduced the book to the gathering and thanked the management of FMCI for the support and encouragement provided at all times. She opined that the guiding support by her husband Dr Udaykumar is the truest essence of success that she has achieved.

Dr Padmaja Udaykumar is the head of the department of Pharmacology and vice-dean at Father Muller Medical College. She is also the in-charge head of Allied Health Science Course offered under FMMC. Being a keen academician of over 30 years with several publications and books she has ventured also into clinical trials of drugs with a repertoire of advising clinicians of the required drug dosages. This is her 19th book to her credit, with textbooks in the subject for dental, nursing, physiotherapy and allied health science courses. Her calm and gentle demeanour is the quality she is recognized as by the faculty and students.

In attendance for the release were, the administrator of Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, administrator of the Father Muller Medical College, Fr Ajith Menezes, asst administrator, FMMCH, Fr Nelson Pais, dean, FMMC, Dr Jayaprakash Alva, chief of research, Dr Sanjeev Rai, medical superintendent, FMMCH, Dr Udaykumar, chief nursing officer, FMMCH, Sr Janet D’Souza, liaison officer of FMCI, Dr Kelvin Pais, faculty and staff of FMMC.

The book has been published by J P Brothers Publishing House, Medical Publishers (P) Ltd, New Delhi all over India and is available in bound books and online copy.
