Mangaluru: HC dismisses review petition - hopes of early corporation council election brighten

Mangaluru, Oct 12: The division bench of the high court, on Friday October 11, dismissed a review petition filed by some people, seeking review of the earlier decision on reservation criteria fixed for the city corporation council election here. With this, there are bright chances of the corporation election being held at an early date.

Some people, who were unhappy at the final reservation list announced by the urban development department when H D Kumaraswamy was the chief minister, had complained to the high court about not correctly following the rotation system. The single judge bench of the high court had asked the government to come out with a revised reservation list. But the state government had appealed against this decision, and had succeeded in getting favourable verdict. Some had thereafter sought review of this decision, but the court has dismissed this petition now.

Now the petitioners have the opportunity to approach the Supreme Court. In the meanwhile, the state election commission has been asked by the high court to complete the election process by October 31 and see that new administrations take over by November 15. As such, election date for the city corporation here is likely to be announced shortly.
