Udupi: DC asks tahsildars to get DC manna land vacated

Udupi, Oct 12: Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha has directed all the tahsildars to get DC manna land illegally acquired by others vacated. He was speaking after presiding over district level meeting of scheduled caste and scheduled tribe held in Atal Bihari Vajpayee auditorium on Friday, October 12. Following complaints by some Dalit leaders that DC manna land is illegally occupied by others, he said that he will not allow others to acquire DC manna land. “Suitable action will be taken against those who have illegally acquired such land,” he said.

Regarding complaints by Dalit leaders that nationalized banks are not lending loans to dalits, he said that he will be asking all the nationalized banks through lead bank. He asked lead bank officials to discuss about it in lead bank meeting and asked zilla panchayat CEO to take action.

The DC asked to give priority to traditional sand minors and allow reservation for scheduled caste/tribes. “Out of 170 people who are given permits, 16 belong to scheduled tribe. Investigations should be held and the licenses should be cancelled if others operate in the name of traditional sand miners,” he said.

He asked taluk panchayat executives to prepare a list of those who misuse funds reserved for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe and send a report. Responding to complaints he asked concerned officials to follow government orders regarding assigning of government contracts and take action against those who obtain contracts in the names of scheduled castes/tribes.

He asked all the tahsildars and Kundapur AC to mandatorily hold meetings of scheduled caste/tribes in their limits. Complaints in detail were discussed of non response in Udupi ESI hospital, supply of dirty water in Nalkuru grama panchayat limits, donation menace in Kundapur private school, illegal stone quarry in Aroor gram panchayat limits, regarding district Ambedkar Bhavan, auction of shops in Kundapur without following reservation system, providing house sites, difficulties due to fish processing plant in Kukkehalli, problems for scheduled caste/tribe students due to fish cutting factory.

The DC asked officials to send a report to him regarding complaints in the meeting. “The meeting should not a namesake. Sincere efforts should be put to solve the problems.” SP Nisha James said that such meetings are being held every month in district police station.

Karkala ASP Krishnakanth, citizen rights implementation directorate SP Kumar Swamy, Kundapur ASP Raju, zilla panchayat assistant secretary Kiran Padnekar were present. Various representatives of scheduled caste and tribe, officials of different departments and people were present.
