Udupi: ‘Tulasi Sankeerthana Saptaha' competition inaugurated at Sri Krishna temple

Udupi, Oct 15: Paryaya Sri Palimaru Math, Sri Krishna math Udupi organized 'Tulasi Sankeerthana Saptaha', a competition under the aegis of Tulu Shivalli Madhwa Maha Mandala at Madhwa mantapa here on Monday, October 14.

Sri Vidhyadheesha Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Sri Palimaru Math inaugurated the programme.

Addressing the gathering he said, “In the month of Karthika, Tulasi sankirthana is being held at every house. People are celebrating this month by reciting bhajans and dancing on devotional songs. This is the tradition of India. This is organized to cultivate and encourage traditional folk art. Tulsi Sankirthana includes devotional prayer, dance.



“Tulsi is herbal plant, which increases immunity power in humans. This gives sound body and mind.

“Earlier, people used to keep tulsi leaves on their ears or on head as it is considered to be prasadam of God. Let us plant saplings of Tulsi in every house. It is a kind of noble work. Let us put our efforts to protect tradition,” he said.

Sri Vidyarajeshwar Theertha Swamiji, Balaji Raghavendra Acharya, businessman, Gopalkrishna Samaga, Pradeep Kumar Kalkur, Harikrishna Punarur, former president, KSP, Lakshminarayana Asranna, priest of Kateel temple, Krishnaraja Saralaya, Shripati Rao and others were present.

K Aravind Acharya welcomed the gathering.
