Bengaluru: Maid, husband arrested for theft - Cash, ornaments worth 55 lac recovered

Bengaluru, Oct 17: A couple who had burgled a house where the wife was working, was arrested by Rajarajeshwari Nagar police on Wednesday, October 16. Ornaments worth Rs 45 lac and cash amounting to ten lac rupees were recovered from them.

The arrested thieves happen to be Chandramma and her husband, Venkatesh, residents of Rajarajeshwari Nagar here. Chandramma was working for a lady named Shashirekha since the last 18 months as housemaid. Shashirekha's husband is a medical practitioner at USA and he used to remit his entire savings to his family for the education of children. Chandramma knew this well and had also noticed where the cash and ornaments of the family were stored.

When no one was at home, she stole cash and ornaments totally worth Rs 55 lac. She got the stolen items shifted elsewhere with the help of her husband.

Shashirekha observed some changes in the behaviour of Chandramma when she attended for work the next day. She filed complaint in Rajarajeshwari Nagar police station. The police who took Chandramma into custody and interrogated her, came to know that she was the thief who took advantage of the confidence reposed on her by the lady who had given her employment.
