Udupi: Konkan Railway registers net profit of Rs 102 crore

Udupi, Oct 17: Chairman and managing director of Konkan Railway Corporation, Sanjay Gupta, said that the corporation had earned a net profit of Rs 102 crore during the financial year 2018 -19. "During the said period, Konkan Railway recorded a turnover of Rs 2,898 crore. Rs 1,561 crore was incurred towards planning expenses and Rs 1,264 crore towards maintenance expenditure," he said.

Gupta stated that during the last five years, Rs 85.35 crore was spent for providing basic amenities for the passengers, and Margao, Karmali, and Tivim stations are being upgraded at an expenditure of Rs 25 crore under tourism development project. "Free Wi-Fi service is provided in all the stations, and 46 km railway trucks between Roha and Veer would be doubled, which will be completed by March next year. Ten stations including Innanje are being developed, and electrification work involving investment of Rs 1,110 crore would be completed by March 2021," he stated

Konkan railway has implemented automatic train examination system in different railway divisions, and that the railway protection force has rescued 85 children in different stations, he narrated. Gupta also informed that 1,622 unauthorized sellers and 25 thieves were caught during this period.
