Bangalore: Govt empowers SDMC Presidents to Hoist National Flag on National Festivals

Bangalore, Aug 6: The state government, through an order, has given the right to hoist the national flags at government schools and colleges, to the presidents of the School Development and Monitoring Committees(SDMC) of the respective institutions, on days of national festivals.

On Independence Day, August 15 and Republic Day, January 26, the SDMC presidents will henceforth, hoist the flags. Primary and secondary education minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri gave this information at a press conference held here on Tuesday August 4.

If the SDMC president is not present at the prescribed time and in cases where the SDMC is not in existence, the headmasters have been given the right to hoist the flag.

The institutions have to follow all the rules relating to the hoisting of the national flag compulsorily. All the respects the national flag is entitled to should be given. In cases where handling of the national flag in an unacceptable way, celebrating of the national festivals on days other than the actual day of the festival etc., are reported, the concerned would be dealt with sternly, he warned.
