Udupi: ZP president Gerald Fernandes Leads Delegation to CM

Udupi, Aug 8:  In-charge president of Udupi zilla panchayat, Gerald Fernandes, led a delegation of peoples' representatives including Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat and Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, to state Chief Minister  B S Yeddyurappa and district  in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya on July 27, 2009 to  place with them an appeal for sanctioning of additional grants for the development projects and also to pay compensation to the victims of natural calamities in the district.



The delegation placed various demands, that included sanctioning of a special relief package amounting to five crore rupees for making payment to the victims of natural calamities in the district, ten crore rupees for providing drinking water, Rs 3.5 crore for the improvement of roads and bridges and another Rs 3.5 crore under the NABARD and RIDF programmes, for the improvement of buildings of PU Colleges, high schools, cattle shelters etc., in the district.

The delegation also impressed upon the Chief Minister, the necessity to fill up the unfilled vacancies in Udupi zilla panchayat office and the need to do away with the tender process in the case of drinking water projects, wherever the outlay does not exceed five lac rupees.

The Chief Minister assured the delegation that he would consider all the demands included in the appeal.
