Udupi: Lions Club International Aims to Achieve Blind-Free Society by 2020

Lions Club International has an aim to achieve total blind-free society by 2020, for which Lions Club International has earmarked US$ 250 millions, said Lions district 324 D 4 governor Basavaraj on Sunday August 9 afternoon.



 

Addressing a press conference at Hotel Durga International here Basavaraj said that Lions District 324 D 4 has the motto of ‘Achieve with small’ which aims to educate the masses on AIDS and measures to curb rapidly growing HIV + cases, future of girls in the society, to control environmental pollution, computer education to school students, generate self-employment opportunities and to award scholarships to talented students.
 
Fifty personal computers to various schools and 20 tailoring machines to take up self-employment have been distributed under Lions district 324 D 4, added Basavaraj.
 
Lions district deputy governor Jayakar Shetty Indrali said that Lions district here has 56 clubs while there are plans to increase the same to 60 in a few years with membership target being 2,000. City Lions Club past president Suresh Shetty, Lions co-ordinator Vidya C Rao, Lions district regional presidents Gopal Bangera, Suresh Prabhu, Devdas Hebbar and Ramanand were present.
