Bengaluru, Nov 1: Fraudsters involved in the rice pulling scam have claimed yet another victim. A 34-year-old businessman from Bengaluru was duped of Rs 3.5 crore. The businessman was fooled into believing that he could purchase certain 'rice pulling' equipment which attracts rice grains to it. The device is allegedly made up of copper/iridium and fraudsters claimed that it is being sought after by NASA.
The businessman, Syed Saleem, a resident of Gurappanapalya in BG Road, has lodged a cheating complaint with Tilaknagar police. “They said the equipment could be sold to NASA for a higher profit, but need to rent suits and other tools from defence research organisations to test the equipment,” Saleem stated in his complaint.
Reportedly, the fraudsters asked Saleem to deposit Rs 3.5 crore to rent specially designed anti-radiation suits and other devices from defence research organisations to demonstrate the equipment to him.
Initially, Saleem deposited Rs 2 crore and paid the remaining sum of Rs 1.5 crore in installments. Saleem claimed that the fraudsters stopped taking calls after he deposited the final installment.
A case in this regard has been booked and an investigation is underway.
