Udupi, Oct 31: Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike and Dalita Dhamanitara Swabhimani Horata Samithi, Udupi conducted a public meeting near Martyrs Ground, Ajjarkad Udupi on October 31 opposing the judicial arrest of Narasimhamoorty at Raichur.

Addressing the protesters, K Phaniraj, vice president of Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike said, “From 1989-1991 Narsimhamoorty fought against the NICE project supporting the farmers. He had conducted lots of rallies and protests. He has been a social fighter who has always fought against the government to help the poor and the farmers.

“Narasimhamoorty is a well-known personality in Karnataka. He has worked with Doreswami and also organized many rallies and protests in different parts of the state. Raichur police cannot arrest him without any proper reason. The works and rallies conducted by Narasimhamoorty also were published in the prestigious newspapers of Karnataka.

“The police claim that Narasimhamoorty is in fact Vinod whom they have been looking for about 25 years. The police were in search of Vinod, who was possessing illegal weapons and also in the case of going against the government. If Narasimhamoorty was the Vinod, which the police are claiming, he would have never protested nor participated in the rallies throughout the state.

“Tomorrow, somewhere in Chikpete in Bengaluru if the police witness me, they might even arrest me stating I am the Vijay Malya whom they were looking for. Narasimhamoorty is the state general secretary of Swaraj India Party and he has also worked in the newspaper that is run by Gowri Lankesh. Police cannot arrest him without any proper evidence.”

G Rajashekhar, President of Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike said, “Narsimhamoorty’s arrest is nothing but government sponsored event.” He remembered the days of Narmada in Gujarat in 2002. Rajashekhar further said, “Muslims in Gujarat faced lots of problems during 2002. Condition of Muslim women was too bad. They had to carry out the bank passbook or some government certified identity proofs with them when they went out from home. Even after carrying the identity proofs, their life was not secure.”

Rajashekhar compared this incident to Narasimhamoorty’s arrest. He said, “No one carries identity proof with them when they go out. Under the present government’s rule, democratic rights are questioned.” He requested the home minister to intervene in this matter and release Narasimhamoorty as soon as possible.
