Udupi, Nov 2: Social workers in Udupi rescued four peachicks which were in helpless condition after getting separated from their mother and handed them over to forest officials.

The peachicks were found in the vicinity of Babbuswamy temple, Subrahmanya Nagar on Friday. Local people waited for long time assuming that the peachicks may join the mother peahen. As peahen was nowhere to be seen, local man Janardhan had rescued the peachicks and kept with him. Social workers Nithyananda Olakadu and Taranath Mestha who received information through veterinary doctor Dr Sandeep Kumar went to the spot and searched for peahen to keep peachicks in its care. But they could not find the peahen.

They kept pea chicks safely in a cage and fed water and grains to them. They later handed them over to forest officer Devaraj Pana. The presence of mind of social workers prevented the peachicks from being harmed.
