Udupi, Aug 11: Karnataka State Archives (KSA) is holding a three-day workshop at Geeta Mandir in association with Sri Vadiraja Samshodhana Kendra, Puttige Mutt here which went underway from Monday August 10.

Usha Suresh, director, KSA at a pressmeet at the Geetha Mandir on Tuesday August 11 said that the workshop will provide details on the archives, manuscript preservation, Kannada and Tulu scripts. In this part of the region there are lots of documents on Tulu script and hence a lecture on study of Tulu script, language, development has been organized by the experts during the workshop. Further the workshop aims at spreading awareness on preservation of palmyra documents, documentation on clothes and paper documents found in mutts of the region, she said.

KSA established in 1973 to preserve documents of historical, religious, political and cultural importance is holding the workshop to create awareness among people about the relevance of archival documentation. Archives building in Bangalore houses more than five lac historical documents and could be accessed by research students, scholars, experts and those involved in litigation, she said.

Nearly 50 per cent of the records that is more than three lac document lists are available on website. Over 20 lakh historical and private papers/documents had been digitized. In Bellary district the archives are completely digitized whereas in Belgaum digitization is in progress. Further we will extend our cooperation to the state and central government to establish a museum, she said.
