Belagavi, Nov 6: Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has decided to enhance incentive being given to dairy farmers supplying milk to KMF from the current five rupees per litre, to six rupees a litre. This was stated by Arabhavi MLA and chairman of KMF Balachandra Jarkiholi.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday November 5, Jarkiholi said that under the 'Ksheerabhagya' scheme of the government, currently powdered milk is being supplied to schools. "There have been complaints of a few staff of education department selling this product. Therefore, to sop this malpractice and to ensure that the children get to consume quality milk, we propose to provide milk in 200 ml flexi packs to schools," he explained.

He stated that there is space to set up flexi pack units in Belagavi, Tumakuru and Mangaluru units.

He noted that in certain cases, disbursement of incentives to farmers gets delayed due to technical reasons like not linking Aadhar numbers to bank accounts. He revealed that the department plans to release incentives pertaining to milk supplied to KMF in respective months.

He asked the farmers to remain thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for not signing the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement as it would have delivered a blow to dairying industry in India.
