Udupi, Aug 17: State chief secretary Sudhakar Rao hailed Udupi for its uniqueness in several spheres besides carving out a name for itself through the widespread network of hotels that are known as 'Udupi Hotels'.

Taking part in 'Srkrishna Masotsava' being celebrated at Srikrishna Mutt here on Sunday August 16, Rao said that Srikrishna Janmashtami has the potential to recreate the same enthusiasm and expectant wait that are associated with the Lord's incarnations. "People pray the entire night, beseeching the Lord to take birth on the earth as early possible on Janmashtami night," he added. The entire epic of Mahabharat too is a great story that builds up a sense of enthusiasm about the way the Lord would lead the other human beings through it, he explained. He also reminisced about the time during which he grew at a place near the Court Road here and his days as a student of the Teachers Training Institute here, where he studied up to the fifth standard.

Paryaya Puttige Mutt head Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji felicitated Sudhakar Rao. Karnataka Bank managing director Jayaram Bhat, district deputy commissioner P Hemalata, scholar Prakash Acharya and industrialist Purushottam Shetty too were honoured on the occasion. Sri Raghumanyateertha Swamiji of Sri Bheemanakatte Mutt was present.
