M'luru: 2nd National Naturopathy Day celebrations held at Sharada Yoga & Naturopathy Hospital

Mangaluru, Nov 18: On the eve of 2nd National Naturopathy Day on November 18, Sharada Yoga & Naturopathy Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre in association with Lions Clubs International has commemorated the Day on Sunday, November 17 at Sharada Ayurdhama campus¸ Devinagara, Talapady, by organizing a series of programmes.

Opening of Advanced Holistic Centre for Diabetes Mellitus, Bruhat Aahaarotsava, Free Health Check-up and Treatment and 10 days Therapy Yoga Camp, all were focussed on the theme – Effective Management of Diabetes Mellitus.



In his key note address, Prof M B Puranik, president of Sharada Group of Institutions, stressed on the need saying, “On November 14, World has observed World Diabetes Day and in an alarming statement WHO has estimated globally, about 420 million people live with Diabetes and it is the 7th leading cause of death. Fortunately, we have Yoga & Naturopathy treatments and practices, which effectively help the patient to manage diabetes with less or no medicines. Therefore, we are opening an Advanced Holistic Centre for Diabetes Mellitus in our Naturopathy Hospital, which is dedicated to the cause. We are happy to be associated with most philanthropic organization, Lions Club.”

Special guest, governor of Lions Clubs International Dist 317 D Ln Ronald Gomes mjf, expressed his pleasure in joining hands with Sharada Hospitals for the cause, which is the serious issue which India is facing in brisk. He also appreciated the Lions members for attending the event in huge numbers.

One of the resourcepersons of the day Ln Geethaprakash A mjf, MBBS, DGO has briefed about Diabetes and mentioned the 3 aspects of lifestyle management, namely Physical activities, Diet and Medicines.

Prof Dr Rajesh Padekal, chief medical officer of the hospital explained the programmes “The Diabetes centre would address the issue with holistic approach where the health aspirant is introduced to healthy diet, Yoga practices, therapies and lifestyle counselling. Aahaarotsava is the organic food carnival organized with all food items prepared as per diabetes diet. Today, in the centre our team of doctors would conduct the health check-up, and screening for diabetes and the required treatments are provided to them. Starting from tomorrow till November 27, we have organized 10 days Therapy Yoga Camp by qualified and experienced Yoga & Naturopathy doctors in 2 batches.”

Dr Vijayalakshmi Rajesh, medical superintendent of the hospital spoke on ‘Healthy Diet & Nutrition’ and explained the significance, nutritional, medicinal and health aspects of each of the dishes prepared in the Aaharotsava.

Ln Asha C Shetty pmjf, chief coordinator of Yoga Education, LCI Dist 317 D has coordinated the event and Ln Chandrahas Shetty pmjf(D) supported in organizing. Ln Anitha Gomes mjf, Ln Vasanth Kumar Shetty mjf, Ln Vijaya Vishnu Mayya mjf and Ln Harish K Shetty mjf were the dignitaries. Lions members from across the district have attended the event, participated in the Aaharotsava, got the Naturopathy treatments and few have registered themselves for the Therapy Yoga Camp.

Vivek Tantry, chief administrative officer of Sharada Ayurdhama and heads of Sharada Group of Institutions, staff and student of BNYS and BAMS courses were present at the event. Invocation was done by BNYS students Lakshmishri and Anupriya. Dr Shrisharath welcomed the gathering and Dr Padmashri, rendered the vote of thanks. The event was anchored by Dr Vidya Shetty and Vaishnavi.
