Mangalore: Fishing Boats collide - Fishermen Rescued

Mangalore, Aug 26: A trawl boat sank around 20 kms away from Someshwar Ucchila near here, in an accident that occurred in the early hours on Tuesday August 25. All the six fishermen in the boat were rescued.

The boat, 'Ganesh Prabha - 1' owned by Ganesh Krupa Enterprises, sank after another fishing boat, 'Hibatulla' rammed into it.

The ill-fated boat had ventured out of the Old Bunder Port here for fishing on Monday August 24 night. While engaged in fishing, another boat titled 'Hibatulla,' which too was fishing in the region, collided with it at around 4 am on Tuesday. Because of the impact of the accident, the boat was about to sink, when the fishermen from 'Maha Ganesh' boat that was also fishing nearby, rushed to the spot and rescued the fishermen.

Because of the impact of the accident, most parts of the boat were damaged and the loss is estimated at around Rs 30 lac. Efforts are on to tug the sunken boat to the shore.

Complaints have been filed with the port and fisheries department, police station and Trawl Boat Fishermen’s Association, about this accident.
