Mangaloreans don't know the basic concept of pedestrian crossing, for them they are merely white stripes on the road without any meaning. Pedestrians have a real tough time crossing roads during busy hours by wasting time and also risking lives. In places like Bendorewell and Balmatta, Hampankatta and RTO area it's almost impossible to cross roads. The motorists don't care a damn about pedestrians.

The citizens suffer in silence. Looks like people are happy with bad roads, absence of footpaths, lack of parking and absence of pedestrian crossing rights. We don't protest where it is really required but only for unwanted things like whether a road should be named as St Aloysius College Road or Mulki Sundararam Shetty Road.

I really wonder why the police chief, the MLAs or the DC haven't issued any guidelines on pedestrian crossing once for all. In all developed countries pedestrians have the highest respect and priority on roads but in India pedestrians are treated like beggars or a nuisance. This is high time the concerned authorities look into this and issue necessary guidelines.

@mangalorean ,Mangalore yes in developed countries.you are right.Thats why it is called developed .Our country is still after so many years of independence, still a undeveloped.not people but ministers too.

If a bus or car waits for a pedastrian to pass he has to wait for hours.because people too are passing without end. That doesnt mean cars and buses should not wait.but a signal too is very important, and people too should behave in a educated manner ,not go on passing when in a rush hour heavy vehicles passing.Best is a seperate way for pedastrians is better,or Police must divert and lead the flow when in rush hour.Sad.May her soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to her family.A senior citizen should be always respected on the road.
