Mangalore: Kinnigoli Ganeshotsav Procession - Complaint of Police Atrocity

Mangalore, Aug 27: Reportedly, a few policemen attached to Mulky police station,  roughed up a youth during the immersion ceremony of Kinnigoly Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava on Tuesday August 25 night.

The youth has been identified as Titesh, son of Narayan Bhandary from Tokkottu, working in a saloon in Kateel, since the last five years. Four policemen allegedly assaulted Titesh without any rhyme or reason. He has got himself admitttd into a private hospital in Kinnigoli for treatment for the injuries sustained.

The policemen on the other side, claim that Titesh had consumed liquor and was engaged in eve-teasing the girls. They say, they had warned him waved the canes to shoo him away.

Leaders of the Savita Samaj handed over a memorandum to the superintendent of police (SP) of the district on Wednesday, in which they have condemned the said incident. They have urged him to order a detailed investigation into the episode. Savita Samaj district president Vishwanath Bantwal, Kinnigoli unit president Shivanand, Dinesh, L Bangera, Anand Bhandary and several others were in the delegation that met the SP.

In the meantime, the Mulky policemen visited the hospital where Titesh is being treated, and obtained his statement.

    Consumption of alcohol is the main cause for such stir up and trouble at many of the festivals and one has to be very careful when teasing or harassing the opposite sex, specially if they can`t accept such teasing in the right spirit. The young man Titesh unfortunately was not so lucky on this occasion and paid the price when he went over the board mainly due to his alcohol consumption I suppose, but, anyway, he will learn a lesson.
