Kaup, Dec 11: A woman who was travelling on the pillion of a Honda Activa scooter was killed after the drum of its brake fell apart. The accident happened on Tuesday December 10, near Padubidri in the taluk.
The victim of the accident was Nafeesa (60), a local.
After the drum broke, the scooter went out of the control of its rider and began to move on the opposite lane on national highway. Nafeesa fell to the road near Tenka Yermal bus stand near here. She was immediately admitted into a private hospital at Udupi but she did not respond to the treatments on account of grave injury suffered in her head. She breathed her last sometime later.
Nafeesa's son, Rashid, was riding the two-wheeler. They were going to meet a relative who stands admitted into a hospital at Suratkal for treatment when the accident happened. Padubidri police have registered a case.
