Mangaluru police commissioner warns of action for obstructing lawful activities

Mangaluru, Oct 9: Mangaluru City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has warned that appropriate legal action will be taken against those who attempt to obstruct legally permitted activities during Navaratri, provided the affected persons lodge a complaint.

He cautioned that those who try to prevent lawful activities on the grounds of their own moral beliefs could face serious consequences and punishment depending on the severity of their actions. He warned that the punishment could include imprisonment of up to 10 years.

“If anyone wants to stop illegal activities, they only need to inform us. We will take action to stop them,” he said.

The commissioner’s warning comes in the wake of demands by some Sangh Parivar organisations urging the police department not to permit what they described as indecent dancing, fashion shows and Western-style parties being organised in various parts of the city under the guise of Dandiya celebrations during Navaratri.
