Karwar, Dec 17: Uttara Kannada district Congress president Bheemanna, whose resignation was sought by senior Congress leader, Margaret Alva, in a press conference, fumed at her demand for his resignation owning responsibility for the defeat of Congress candidate in Yallapur constituency in the bypoll.

Speaking at a press meet held at the district office of the party on Monday December 16, Bheemanna challenged Margaret Alva to change the district presidents at the state Congress level. "Let them appoint a candidate of their choice. I am waiting for it to happen," he asserted.

Bheemanna again questioned on what authority Margaret had demanded his resignation. "Margaret visited her district for the first time after ten years since she faced defeat. She does not know where the party office located is. She should not have demanded for my resignation. She has been in politics since the last five to six decades. Such statements do not behove her," he said, expressing resentment.

Bheemanna stated that after MLA Shivaram Hebbar of Yallapur resigned from the party, many Congress leaders had followed him. "Within a few days, we organized the party and faced the election. We will not be deterred by this bypoll defeat. We will continue to build the party, infuse enthusiasm among the party workers, and invigorate the party again," he stated.
