Kasargod, Dec 17: Several organizations have given call for state level Hartal in Kerala on Tuesday December 17 in protest against Citizenship Ammendment Bill. This protest has thrown normal life out of gear in Kasargod district. Even though the police have warned that Hartal is illegal and that they would take strict action against the violators, Hartal in general has met with success.

Private and government buses have not taken to streets today. Students are facing a problem as their examinations have not been postponed. A large number of students could not reach their schools as buses have suspended their operations. The deputy director of public instruction has clarified that examinations have not been postponed. This has given rise to confusion among the students who failed to reach their schools on time. Most of the shops and establishments in the town have closed down.

Workers of certain organizations which had given call for the Hartal have been detained by the police as a precautionary measure. The police personnel from Manjeshwar, Kasargod and Kumble have arrested about ten workers belonging to SDPI and Welfare Party.

Over 30 organizations including SDPI and Welfare Party have given call for this Hartal. The police say that they have not received any notice from these organizations about the proposed Hartal, and hence this Hartal is illegal. State inspector general of police is understood to have instructed the police to take tough measures against the violators.
