Bengaluru: NIA concerned about terror operatives hiding in city

Bengaluru, Dec 18: National Investigation Agency (NIA) has expressed concern about the information that terrorists associated with Jamaat Ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) are still hiding in the city. NIA, in association with the local police, have been trying to flush them out.

NIA officials had arrested Muneer Sheikh alias Bom Mian (38), a suspected terrorist owing allegiance to JMB during August 2018. On the basis of information he gave during the questioning, the agencies succeeded in making some arrests. On December 16, Mosraf Hussain alias Moosa was taken into custody from West Bengal.

Muneer, sentenced to life term in Bangladesh, had come out through jail break and arrived at West Bengal in 2011. He was roaming around the city and outskirts for strengthening JMB here for the last several years. With others, he had engaged in thefts and robberies and pooled money. He reportedly was manufacturing explosives in a rented house in Soladevanahalli from where these explosives were sent to various parts of the country. Some of his accomplices were arrested from different parts of the country and sent to judicial custody.

NIA officials believe that some more supporters of JMB are in the city and surrounding places. They are pooling together pieces of information on the basis of calls made through cell phones. Mosraf Hussain arrested on December 16 will be produced in NIA special court here For this purpose, He was produced in NIA special court in Kolkata and transit warrant was obtained on December 16, NIA sources say that Mosraf was also involved with explosion in rented house at Soladevanahalli.

Because of sustained operation by agencies, illegal immigrants have been developing cold feet. Many immigrants who were living in temporary sheds are trying to return to their homes because of Citizenship Ammendment Act. Agents who brought these immigrants to the city from West Bengal are helping them to go back, sources said.
