Udupi, Dec 18: Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society’s centenary celebration valedictory will be held on December 22 at Smt Ammanni Ramanna Shetty auditorium, Udupi, said Centenary Celebration Committee president Sanjeev Kanchan.
Addressing a press meet at Udupi press club, here on Tuesday, December 18, Kanchan said that the valedictory ceremony will be inaugurated by Karnataka home minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Vishwesha Theertha swamiji of Pejawar Math will bless the programme and its attendees. Vincent Palanna, treasurer, CSI Karnataka Southern Diocese, Al-Hazi-Mohammad-Hanif-Madani, priest, Quitib Badriya Jumma Masjid will be present.
Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Kundapur MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty, Karnataka State Cooperative Maha Mandala president N Ganganna, former ministers Pramod Madhwaraj, Vinaya Kumar Sorake, Dakshina Kannada Milk Producers Okkoota president Raviraj Hegde Kodavoor, Guruswamy, Prakash Rao, Praveen B Nayak, SP Nisha James will be present as chief guests.
Sri Sugunendra Theertha swamiji of Puttige Math, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop of Udupi Diocese will bless the gathering. Dr M N Rajendra Kumar, president, SCDCC will be preside over the programme.
Muzarai, Harbour minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat, former minister Amarnath Shetty, Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr Mohan Alva, TMA Pai Foundation secretary T Ashok Pai, MRG Group chairman K Prakash Shetty, Chandra Pratima M J, M H Vittal Sherigar will be present in the evening function.
After the formal programme, students of Alva’s Education Institution will put up a cultural performance. Thenku and Badaguthittu style of Yakshagana ‘Bhishma Vijaya’ will be performed by popular artistes.
As part of the celebration, ‘Paura Sammana,’ a felicitation for Paura Karmikas for their achievements, will be held on Saturday, December 18 at the same auditorium. An interaction programme with bankers from different sectors is also organised.
In the year 1918, the Society was founded by Late Jagannatha Ballal of Katapadi Beedu under the control of Madras Government.
Now, the Society is serving people and aims to remove superstition and ignorance. It is extending financial assistance for the needy. The Society has bagged national award for cooperative elections two times. It has also conducted drug awareness campaign, distributed drinking water coolers, distributed cycles under go-green drive and organised many pro-social events. It has been spent around Rs 2 crore in the centenary year for various social and developmental works.
