Kundapur: Groom plays truant at his own marriage - Complaint filed

Kundapur, Dec 20: The father of a girl whose marriage was scheduled to be performed on December 1 this year has filed complaint about the groom and his family members staying away from the wedding function without information. The personnel of the town station have registered this complaint.

Shankar Acharya, resident of Gurucharan House on Nanasaheb Road in Voderahobi here had arranged for performing the marriage of his daughter with Sharath Bhat from Bengaluru. After family members of Sharath including Sharath, Nagaraja Bhat, Jyothi Bhat, Bharath Bhat and Meghana alias Deepa Bhat gave their nod for this alliance, the ladies in the groom's family adorned the girl's plait with a garland of flowers in token of having sealed the alliance on April 10. Thereafter engagement ceremony was held on May 31 at Nandagokula Halll of Dwarakanath Bhavan, Basavanagudi, Bengaluru, where it was decided to hold the wedding function on December 1 at Kundapur.

35 persons from the town had taken part in the engagement ceremony. All preparations had been made to perform the marriage on December 1 but at the last minute, the groom failed to make an appearance and hence the marriage function had to be put off. Shankar Acharya said in his complaint that in addition to loss of face he suffered, an amount of Rs 2.15 lac he spent on marriage preparations went waste.

The police, who have registered the case against five persons, are investigating.
