Bengaluru: Carmel Kutam conducts Christmas carol singing competition ‘Natalam Gitam Gayan Spardo

Bengaluru, Dec 21: Carmel Kutam, here, on December 8 organized a Konkani Carol Singing Competition ‘Natalam Gitam Gayan Spardo’ - 2019 at Sadbhavana premises.

Since its dawn in 2014 this is the fifth time that such a programme is organized. There was an overwhelming response from all over the city of Bengaluru as 55 participants took part in the competition in three sections, namely, children, youth, adults, under three categories: solo, duet and group singing.



The programme began with lamp lighting and prayer by Fr Jerald D’Souza, spiritual director of Carmel Kutam. Maxim Lobo, well-known columnist in various Konkani magazines, Sharon Rego, a budding singer and Manil Rego, a well-known singer, were given the task of choosing the winners by judging their singing quality, co-ordination, harmony and stage performance. Ever smiling Pramila D’Souza compered the programme.

Maxim Lobo expressed his sentiments on behalf of the judges. BKCS Koramangala performed non-stop baila at the end to entertain the crowd. Manil and Sangeeth Rego sang a euphonious duet song and Sharon Rego entertained the crowd with her melodious voice. The president of Carmel Kutam, Dolphy D’Cunha, presented the vote of thanks. Pramila D’Souza declared the winners and Fr Isidore D’Silva, Fr Jerald D’Souza and Dolphy D’Cunha, president, presented the prizes consisting of a trophy and cash. Konkani Samudai Jayanagara was honoured with a rolling shield for their all-round performance which was presented by all the committee members of Carmel Kutam.
