Karkala, Dec 21: Prof M Ramachandra (81), a highly respected author, breathed his last on Friday December 20 morning at his residence, 'Akshara Nivas' on Tellar 12th road here. He is survived by wife and two sons.

Prof Ramachandra was from Karnataka-Kerala border area. He settled own in the town. He was well-known for organizing literature programmes.

After completing his degree through St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, he took up Kannada MA postgraduate course through Karnatak University. He became Kannada lecturer at Sri Bhuvanendra College here where he rose to be the professor and head of the department before retiring. Prof Ramachandra, a favourite student of Sediyapu Krishna Bhat, had published a small book on Sediyapu, a detailed work on him and also a collection of letters of Sediyapu titled 'Patravali'. In his work,'Badada Hoogalu', he introduced unique literary works of Kannada. A collection of essays predominantly in the form of literary analysis named 'Rasayana' had become text for degree course. His work, 'Nenapina Butti' was a collection of unique experiences.

His work on G P Rajaratnam was published by Pustaka Sahitya Academy. He also has edited a number of collections of articles. The district Sahitya Sammelan organized under his leadership with G P Rajaratnam as president became a model for others to emulate. He was a great orator and organizer. On December 18 this year, the Kannada Book Authority had announced having chosen Prof Ramachandra for its annual award for 2018.

Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade and others have mourned Prof Ramachandra's demise, and described him as a person with tremendous talent and good heart.
