Mangaluru: Highway sub-contractors misuse NHAI board to avoid toll charges

Mangaluru, Dec 24: It has come to light that some sub-contractors who have bagged highway work contract, have been wrongly using National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) boards on their vehicles to avoid payment of toll charges.

The NHAI officials, who were at Suratkal tollgate, were surprised to find that their department's name was being used by vehicles working for Indian Road Builders, a concern that is executing highway work in Kundapur section of the highway, to avoid toll charges. As per their instructions, the contractors removed the board and paid toll charges after which they were allowed to go.
