Mangalore, Sep 17: Lokayukta inspector Uday Nayak informed that the court here, on Wednesday September 16, rejected the anticipatory bail application moved by Beltangady circle inspector Gangi Reddy, relating to the destruction of a voice recorder belonging to the Lokayukta.

The Lokayukta officials had recently conducted a surprise raid on the rented residences of Gangi Reddy at Laila near Beltangady and his own residence in Bangalore. Later, he was accused of destroying a voice recorder belonging to the Lokayukta, that had been given to a complainant to record his conversation with the circle inspector. It is alleged, that the circle inspector got wind of the complainant’s moves and destroyed the voice recorder before handing over the same back to the complainant, who had carried it to the office of the circle inspector for recording the conversation.

Gangireddy had immediately got admitted into a hospital here and tried to obtain anticipatory bail.

It is learnt, that District Crime Intelligence Bureau inspector Venkatesh Prasanna is being proceeded against by the department for making use of a car that had been confiscated relating a crime, for personal use. After the Tata Indigo car in question was handed over to the policemen for being kept in their possession till its original owner was traced, the Lokayukta received a complaint in July 2007, that the said car was being used by Venkatesh Prasanna and his brother H N Balakrishna. Lokayukta policemen had seized the car key from the possession of H N Balakrishna and had also alleged that the car was being run for personal use by the inspector, by illegally changing its number plate.

The department is set to take action against the inspector in this case now. The inspector general of police had served show cause notice to the inspector in May this year for committing dereliction of duty.
