Udupi, Dec 29: Fed up by the trouble created by her drunkard husband, a woman tried immolating herself on Saturday, December 28. She stands admitted into a hospital at Manipal with severe burns.
The woman in quesition happens to be Jyothi (20), wife of Sandeep, residing in a rented house at Kotnakatte, Hiriadka. She is a native of Sindhagi taluk in Vijayapura district. She continues to be treated at the hospital.
Sandeep, it is said, used to come home drunk every night and create a scene at home. Jyothi said in her statement to the police that her husband looked her after well but when he got drunk, he used to behave violently and beat her up with cycle chain and hands. Frustrated by this ordeal, she had poured kerosene on her body before torching herself.
Hiriadka police who have registered a case are investigating.
