Mangaluru, Dec 31: Finding that the charge of supplying to ganja to the inmates of the sub-jail here levelled against Ashfaq (24) from Casba Bengre village was proved the third JMFC court here awarded six months of rigorous imprisonment (RI) to him. The court also imposed fine of Rs 15,000 on him.

Ashfaq had visited the jail at 10 am on April 4, 2016, in the guise of meeting under-trial prisoners, Naheem and Chappe Thanni Rahim. On that occasion, Barke police assistant sub-inspector, Ammanni and other staff had conducted checks and found that Ashfaq was in possession of 50 grams of ganja packet with him. He was immediately arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

The then Barke police inspector, A K Rajesh, had concluded the investigation and filed charge sheet. Judge of the third JMFC court here, Ashwini Kore, who found that the charge of illegal ganja possession was proved, handed down punishment to the accused under the provisions of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Public prosecutor, B Mohan Kumar, had represented the prosecution in the case. Out of eight witnesses, five were examined by the court.
