New Year turns expensive - After railways, gas prices inflate

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi (SHP)

New Delhi, Jan 1: The non-subsidised LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) or cooking gas prices saw a hike effective from January 1, 2020. This increase in price will be the fifth monthly hike since August. In Delhi and Mumbai, the price increased to Rs 19 and Rs 19.5 per cylinder.

According to Indian Oil Corporation, which supplies LPG under the Indane brand. The non-subsidised LPG rates were revised to Rs 714 per cylinder in Delhi and Rs 684.50 per cylinder in Mumbai with effect from Jan 1. As per Indian Oil's website - iocl.com, in December the price of one cylinder in Delhi came for Rs 695 and per cylinder charge in Mumbai touched Rs 665.

In Kolkata, the price increased by Rs 21.5 per cylinder bringing the cost to Rs 747, while in the southern Indian city, Chennai, the non-subsidised LPG prices increased by Rs 20 per cylinder bringing the cost to Rs 734 per cylinder.

From December 1, the prices of 19-kilogram cylinders were also revised upwards to Rs 1,241 per unit in Delhi and Rs 1,190 in Mumbai, according to Indian Oil.

The price of LPG (per 14.2 kilograms) has been increased by a cumulative Rs. 139.5 per cylinder in Delhi and Rs. 138 per cylinder in Mumbai so far since August - an increase of 24.28 per cent and 25.25 per cent respectively.

Currently, the government subsidises 12 cylinders of 14.2 kilograms each per household annually. If the consumer has to make any additional purchases, they will have to do so at market rates. The amount of subsidy provided by the government on the quota of 12 cylinders per year varies from month to month.

Factors such as changes in the average international benchmark LPG prices and foreign exchange rates determine the subsidy amount.

I encourage the gas prices to go high for the following reasons

    1. It is justified because international Oil and Gas prices increasing
    2. It makes people to go for alternative energy sources such as solar
    3. It makes sure people are careful and don't waste gas unnecessarily
    4. It brings unity within Indians as all are affected, irrespective of caste, creed, race & religion... :-) :-)

If there are so many benefits of increasing the Prices, I request the Government to at least triple the prices of each and every item.
First time I learnt that Unity is defined in terms of suffering of citizens due to increase in the Price of goods.

    1. It is justified because international Oil and Gas prices increasing
Agree there is a 40% increase in International prices in last one year, but then rupee devaluation is another reason. Industrial Production has come down / Export have come down last year.... Only thing which was happening was creating vote base with hollow sloganeering.
    2. It makes people to go for alternative energy sources such as solar
Are u aware of the cost of an installation of solar panel at a normal residence... It cost minimum 1 to 1.5 lakhs and that too does not generate the required output at times. Individual solar based items such as solar cookers are costly and is not affordable for a large segments of the society.
    3. It makes sure people are careful and don't waste gas unnecessarily
Do you think nowadays anyone has the fancy to spend time in the kitchen at all, forget about the wastage of gas
    4. It brings unity within Indians as all are affected, irrespective of caste, creed, race & religion... :-) :-)
Great New Year Joke.... (appreciate it for at least indirectly admitting these are the issues affecting common man rather than CAA, NRC, ABC..... XYZ)

Acche din. Jai Shri Ram. Even if non subsidized rates go to 1500/- our votes are for Modi only. Because he is using that money to boost the economy to 5 trillions and to build the biggest grandest ram temple and to destroy Pakistan once and for all.

    Mr. Uday,

LPG price hike is used to do all these things? The price has already been increased earlier also. What did you do? GDP 8.5% to 4.5%. Hunger Index Below Pakistan.

Hike the Petrol and Diesel Price also. May be we can destroy China also which is already having its bases inside Indian border (Doklam).

The price rise is for non-subsidised cylinders only. Those who are getting non-subsidised cylinders will have to pay more.By the way those who get cylinders illegally will also have to pay more. Achhe din for some ,kabhi khushi kabhi gam.

Nirmala Sitharaman has failed on all counts in managing country's economic situation. Cow and Gober Government at loot spree of Indian poor and the middle class! Nalin Kumar is trying to cover up Pumpwell Flyover Inauguration. He is completely exposed of his inability of administration. May be he doesn't even know the correct spelling of it but our intelligent coastal people voted him for 2nd term or may be EVM magic worked for him.

It's a Brutal combination. GDP is nose diving and INFLATION is also skyrocketing.

Otherwise, in any normal case, when the economy is down, inflation is also down.
