Mangaluru: Grand procession to be highlight of Karavali Utsav inaugural

Mangaluru, Jan 10: The biggest cultural festival of Dakshina Kannada district, 'Karavali Utsav', is set to open today with a grand cultural procession which will wind through the main roads of the city.

The procession will be inaugurated by district in-charge minister, Kota Srinivas Poojary, at 3.30 pm from Nehru Maidan here. Teams of skilled performers from various districts will be part of this procession. All preparations for the successful holding of procession have been completed and the teams have already reached the city. About 28 teams of artistes, youth organizations, students from different colleges etc, will be part of the procession.

The procession will pass through K S Rao Road, Navabharat Circle, P V S and Lalbagh before reaching Karavali Utsav ground.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by the district in-charge minister at 5.30 pm. It will be followed by setting Karavali Utsav into motion by well-known cine actor Rishab Shetty, at 6 pm. As part of the Utsav, talented artistes and art teams will be performing at the Utsav ground and Kadri Park from January 11 to 19. Karavali sports festival will be held in different stadiums in the city on November 11. Students of various colleges will give vent to their talents in art at the 'Yuva Utsav' being held at Kadri Park on January 16 and 17.

International kite festival will begin at Panambur beach on January 17. It will conclude on January 19. The exhibition at the Karavali Utsav ground will continue till February 10.
