Udupi, Oct 2: A tempo driver was critically injured in a ghastly mishap that occurred on NH 17, near Dandateerta School, Kaup, on Friday October 2.
The tempo laden with oxygen cylinders meant for delivery at Manipal, rammed into a KSRTC bus in a head-on collision on Friday morning.
The bus was plying towards Mangalore when the mishap occurred. The tempo driver was driving behind an auto rickshaw driver who changed lanes unexpectedly and without any indication.
The critically injured tempo driver was taken to a hospital here with the assistance of locals and other motorists. The tempo was totally damaged while the bus driver and passengers survived with minor injuries.
The traffic on NH 17 was disrupted for almost two hours and the rains made rescue difficult. The policemen from Kaup managed to clear the damaged vehicles from the spot and the traffic was restored.
